Pax is back and with him comes his beautiful family but like all stories there are challenges that come along the way。 Peter is also go through many personal challenges too。 I found myself talking to these characters as I followed along。Readers will learn about environmental dangers due to the lasting effects of war, understand love, loss and sacrifice。 This beautiful story will be a favorite of many。

This is such a lovely children's story。 I really like the way she has structured things with the alternating narratives of Peter and Pax。 I loved the first book and was so glad that she wrote a sequel。 What a great series。 Not sure if any more will follow, but the two that exist are a treasure。 This is such a lovely children's story。 I really like the way she has structured things with the alternating narratives of Peter and Pax。 I loved the first book and was so glad that she wrote a sequel。 What a great series。 Not sure if any more will follow, but the two that exist are a treasure。 。。。more

Pax, Journey Home is the long-awaited sequel to Pax and is an inspiring and hopeful story about the importance of family and how love can be the ultimate healer。 It's been a year since he found refuge with former soldier Vola and Peter who is now mourning his losses while grappling with feelings of guilt and alienation, embarks upon a journey back to his home with two military veterans who are part of a community calling themselves Water Warriors who work to heal the land from the scars of war。 Pax, Journey Home is the long-awaited sequel to Pax and is an inspiring and hopeful story about the importance of family and how love can be the ultimate healer。 It's been a year since he found refuge with former soldier Vola and Peter who is now mourning his losses while grappling with feelings of guilt and alienation, embarks upon a journey back to his home with two military veterans who are part of a community calling themselves Water Warriors who work to heal the land from the scars of war。 He plans to join the Junior Water Warriors and assist with repurposing wartime machinery, buildings and other infrastructure to reclaim the reservoirs, rivers and waterways that were poisoned throughout the conflict by toxicities。 He then plans to live alone separated from the others, as at age 13 he feels he is capable and determined enough to be able to make it work。 Meanwhile, Pax mates with Bristle and becomes a devoted father to three beautiful kits。 When one of them becomes disabled after drinking poisoned water, Pax searches out Peter to obtain his help in saving the kit from certain death in the wild。The selfless sacrifices Pax makes as a father to attempt to save the runt of the litter will warm even the coldest heart。 This is a truly exquisite tale for adults and children alike, and it alternates between Peter and Pax’s perspectives to depict the struggles they are both currently facing - one as an animal and one as a human。 It's tender, emotionally touching and full of intricate details that make the story shine like a gem。 It's a deftly nuanced and stunning novel that highlights injustice especially when it comes to the suffering felt by both children and animals during wartime; those who are so often neglected and not taken into account。 However, Pennypacker also emphasises the bonds that emerge among those from different backgrounds who come together to fight against a common enemy。 This is a captivating, richly engaging read from beginning to bookend that explores the fragility of the human heart and just how powerful friendship and brotherhood can be。 As in the original Pax book, award-winning illustrator John Klassen has once again produced delightful imagery for both the cover art and interior pages。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

This sequel was everything I wanted。 Another heartwarming young boy-animal friendship with a reunion between Peter and his beloved Pax。 This time though Pax has his own young family and Peter must race to protect them from the contaminated water。 The foreshadowing was a little overpowering in this one but there is a happy ending。 I was on the edge of my seat wondering how things would go but luckily didn't need quite as many tissues for this book as the first one。 Highly recommend this series th This sequel was everything I wanted。 Another heartwarming young boy-animal friendship with a reunion between Peter and his beloved Pax。 This time though Pax has his own young family and Peter must race to protect them from the contaminated water。 The foreshadowing was a little overpowering in this one but there is a happy ending。 I was on the edge of my seat wondering how things would go but luckily didn't need quite as many tissues for this book as the first one。 Highly recommend this series that has great environmental consciousness messages and a wonderful animal-human friendship。 Much thanks to Libro。fm for my complimentary ALC! 。。。more

Pax: Journey Home is the sequel to Sara Pennypacker’s critically acclaimed middle-grade novel Pax, and it was wonderful。 I absolutely loved this adorable little book full of heart。 If you liked the first book, you will love this one。 I love how this story is told from both Peter’s and Pax’s POVs。 We see how much each of these characters have grown since the last book and how they continue to grow throughout this one。 This book is beautifully written and a heartwarming story。 Although it is a lit Pax: Journey Home is the sequel to Sara Pennypacker’s critically acclaimed middle-grade novel Pax, and it was wonderful。 I absolutely loved this adorable little book full of heart。 If you liked the first book, you will love this one。 I love how this story is told from both Peter’s and Pax’s POVs。 We see how much each of these characters have grown since the last book and how they continue to grow throughout this one。 This book is beautifully written and a heartwarming story。 Although it is a little sad in places, it’s not what I’d call a ‘sad’ animal story。 I find most animal stories tend to be super sad, so it was nice to read one with a hopeful tone。 There are also the most beautiful illustrations all through the novel, which added that extra something special。 All around, this was a satisfying read。 I recommend this to readers of middle-grade novels and those who like animal stories。 Thank you Harper Collins Australia for sending me the review copy。 。。。more

I was so excited and grew even more so when it showed up on my door。 I was able to read this in one day (if you remove the times in between reading that I had to take for work and eating and spending time with family)。This book was a really wonderful closing to the ending of ‘Pax’。 It answered some questions on what happened with both Pax and Peter after they said their goodbyes。From the cover, you can infer that Pax and Bristle had some kits, and I wish that my ARC had the art in it so I could see how cute they looked, but alas I’ll have to get a final copy once it’s released into the wild。 But even without the art in the book I really liked this story and how it connected the stories again in the end。Seeing the way that Peter and Pax looked differently at their families, both related by blood and love, was a really fun way and an insight on ways to deal with grief and guilt。 Also how to deal with those who have passed, and how we go about our lives afterwards because of them and the way that they raised us/inspired us。I gave Pax: Journey Home 5 stars because I just loved it so much and it was nice for me to have an ending like that。*No quotes in this as the ARC may be slightly different from the final text sold in stores。 Will add quotes once I can compare them to the final text and see if they are the same or changed slightly。Spoilers(view spoiler)[I loved how Jade and Sam played their part in this story for Peter。 Trying to get him to accept that he has a very different family now。 He has no parents, but he has a grandfather that’s starting to be more emotional and Vola who cares for him as if he was her own。Meanwhile Pax has his own children but knows that his boy is the only thing that can save his daughter。LET ME TELL YOU I THOUGHT PETER WAS GOING TO SHOOT HER I WAS ABOUT TO THROW THE BOOK LIKE HOW HOW HOW!I loved that Peter named the kit Sliver, because she was the ‘sliver or crack in his exterior that let the emotions in’ like Jade said。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

I got this book on NetGalley。I liked the first one。 It was sad, made me cry but ended the way I thought it should。 No need for another story。 But I was wrong。 I needed this。 I needed to know what happened to Peter and Pax。 And boy did I cry。 And yes, this one ended the way I thought it should。

Sara Pennypacker has an amazing talent for building a character that attaches to your soul。 Just as I could not peel Pax from the clutches of my heart, Journey Home is equally tucked up in a tight embrace。 The immense connection you gain through the words have you blubbering through dark and glowing with pride in the light。 Love love love everything Pax… I want more!!!!

Fabulous conclusion to this duology! The ecology element really added dimension to the story。 Pushing Peter out of his comfort zone while addressing his issues with loss also created layers of character development that matured this story furthering it’s appeal to older age groups。

I absolutely loved this book! While reading it I kept thinking of all the rich conversations I would have with my students if I were still in the classroom。 Like the first book, Pax, this book draws you in and tears at your heart。 It is perfectly suited for a read aloud because of the cliffhangers and great moral points to discuss。 If you have an opportunity to read this, read it and then share it with a young person in your life。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Just like Pax #1, this is a tender story about a boy grappling with the overwhelming sadness in his life。 It is through the love of an animal that he sees his way to love。 He is reunited with Pax and it makes his life turn around in an unexpected way。 SO worth reading and sharing with a young reader。 One of my very favorite two books for kids at this age。

EARC provided by Edelweiss PlusLoved! The author did a fantastic job of making this a book that stands alone as well as one that follows up after Pax (for those who read that)。 It had been a while for me, but I was instantly reminded of why I enjoyed Pax so- I loved the equal treatment of Peter and Pax’s journeys told through such lovely storytelling。 Lots for readers to discuss as and after this is read- so be sure to add this to your school or classroom library。

Before I started this book, I had to read the first one。 I had owned a copy of Pax for well over a year, but never got around to reading it。 Getting the chance to read its sequel was the push I needed to get it read。 And, after reading Pax and Pax, Journey Home, I would say it was worth it。While Pax was a story about letting go, Pax, Journey Home, is a story about holding on。 Just like the first book, this one gives very little in terms of setting, so that the themes can resonate better with peo Before I started this book, I had to read the first one。 I had owned a copy of Pax for well over a year, but never got around to reading it。 Getting the chance to read its sequel was the push I needed to get it read。 And, after reading Pax and Pax, Journey Home, I would say it was worth it。While Pax was a story about letting go, Pax, Journey Home, is a story about holding on。 Just like the first book, this one gives very little in terms of setting, so that the themes can resonate better with people across time and space。 (Personally, while I can see the intention behind "this place is undefined and thus these events could happen anywhere," to me it often felt more like "this place is undefined and thus these events have happened no where)。 This book was also pretty sad for the vast majority of it - I suppose for an adult who can see the moral coming from the first couple of chapters it feels like it lingers too long in the misunderstandings, mistakes, and sadness, but there's a strong possibility that children reading it won't see it that way。 I could easily see children, and even adults, who have been through multiple loses like Peter reacting in a way similar to him, so to see him learn throughout his journey in this book would be important。 In conclusion, while this wasn't a book that resonated with me personally, I am certain that there is an audience out there who will connect strongly with it。 。。。more
